TanAfrik Initiative.
" Building Life, Giving Hope"
TanAfrik Initiative is a community-based organization established in 2016 as a mentorship program for girls in primary schools in Madogo, Tana River County addressing key challenges such as retrogressive cultural practices such as female genital mutilation, underage marriages and teenage pregnancies. The CBO was officially registered in 2020 and expanded its operations across the whole county through advocacy programs, sustainable livelihoods and restoration initiatives. Through the advocacy program, TanAfrik Initiative is conducting community sensitizations, providing legal aid clinics for survivors of SGBV and spearheading the formulation of the Tana River County Sexual and Gender Based Violence Policy. Through the sustainable livelihoods program, the CBO sub granted cooperative societies to establish social enterprises to diversify their operations. Through the restoration initiatives, the CBO sub granted community groups across the county, to establish tree nurseries as a source of income and participate in tree planting exercises across various institutions such as schools and worship places.
